Atmospheric Rivers and Atmospheric Music

It’s January 12…8:38am and I’m sitting in the comfort of my local café drinking a hot cup of dark coffee. It’s warm and comfortable here, and the staff – whom I know by name – are welcoming and friendly. The background music is an eclectic mix of 60’s girl group, The Angels, hits (currently “Laughing on the Outside”) a bit of Bob Marley, Harry Nilsson, and some atmospheric pieces that are so new, even my Shazam doesn’t recognize them. While outside, another atmospheric river, coming in from its meandering journey across the Pacific, releases incredible amounts of rain on the region.

I appreciate being warm and dry, and caffeinated, yet soothed by the music, bonhomie and good energy of this place – which is exactly what we try and bring you at Shavasana Gallery & Café.

(This is a photo of the stretch of Broadway where my go-to café resides, and shows the annual efforts the merchant association puts into decorating for Christmas – it’s very cheery, atmospheric rivers or no)

As I write these words, Anita McCamley is over on Mayne Island at Shavasana Café offering her delicious baked goodies to islanders, in a warm and inviting environment – a welcome refuge from the ongoing midwinter tempest. I haven’t yet had the good fortune to be over on Mayne when Anita is running the show, but I know that she’s got her yummy baked goods😋 displayed, the heat is on, the tunes are up, and she welcomes all with her warm personality and inviting smile. Everything you’d want in your own little neighbourhood Gallery Café.

Also, I should mention, that these little “Shavasana Opening” messages are undergoing a bit of a transition as Anita and I acclimatize to our respective schedules. As she is primarily running the café 2 or 3 days per week during the winter months, I don’t announce each of her openings and leave that up to her to get the word out. I’ll continue to use these rambling notes to let you all know when I am coming over during the winter months (usually once – or twice – per month)…and, to that effect, here’s my schedule for this coming weekend😊:

Friday Jan. 16, 9am – 4pm

Saturday Jan. 17, 9am – 4pm

Sunday Jan. 18, 10:15 – 4pm

Monday Jan. 19, 9am – 4pm

Hope to see you then!

Cheers!

George
